Description

Dynamic Bi-Spectral Analyses

There are two categories of Cross-Frequency analyses in NeuroGuide™.  First is the “Bi-Spectrum” that uses the Hilbert transform to calculate the instantaneous amplitude “Envelope” of absolute power, absolute amplitude, coherence, phase differences, amplitude asymmetry and phase reset (1st derivative of straightened phase). Then the FFT is used to compute the spectrum of the “Envelope” that is plotted from 0.032 Hz to 5 Hz to cover the “Infra-Low”aspects of the human EEG.  This frequency range corresponds to the frequency range of the fMRI as well as the use of DC EEG amplifiers.  DC amplifiers are seriously limited by artifact, e.g., the metal-to-scalp electrical exchange rather than the EEG.  The Bi-Spectrum avoids such artifact and instead measures the cross-frequency oscillations for a range of different metrics.
